Scientific name: Upupa epops

Status: Abundant and non-endangered species.

Habitat and distribution: Easy to see throughout the island, especially in the vicinity of crops and livestock farms, towns and in flatter areas with walls or ruins where they can make their nests.

How to recognize it: It is one of the most popular and showy birds in the Canary Islands. Its characteristic claim, striking plume of feathers and erratic and undulating flight make it easily recognizable.

Curiosities: In the Canary Islands it is known by the popular name of tabobo, onomatopoeia of its peculiar song.
