La Apañada

The apañadas are one of the oldest livestock traditions of Fuerteventura, they were already performed in pre-Hispanic times, and have been maintained until today.

Coastal cattle are gathered in an apañada, , which is cattle that graze freely in a semi-wild state. The apañadas can be carried out for different reasons: to check the condition of the cattle, to breed the young males and select some of them for consumption, to sire and mark the offspring, distributing to each farmer the ones that correspond to him.
