Flows from a distant volcano

Old lava. On the access cliff to the Cuevas de Ajuy, but a little further inside the ravine, we can see above our heads a dark flow of basaltic lava. It is the lava river that emerged in the eruption of Morro Valdés, a volcano 9 kilometers away inland, at the time with sufficient force and flow to reach the sea.

We know this because of the cushioned shape of the rocks, a sign that the lava reached the beach and cooled rapidly when it came into direct contact with the water.
