Monumento al Pastor

This sculpture of the shepherd and his dog stands on an old restored lime kiln. It is a tribute to the great livestock vocation of Jandía.
The Majorero or Bardino dog has been officially recognized as its own breed by the Royal Spanish Canine Society since 1994 and its breed standard was published in 2001. Brought by pre-Hispanic inhabitants more than 2,000 years ago, this strong medium-sized dog is a prized guardian of the house and livestock, with a reputation for being loyal and brave.
The coat is predominantly dark gray or black, but starting from the back it often shows vertical brindle stripes ranging from greenish-brown to beige.
