While the other salt marshes on this coast have remained more or less the same, the Sotavento salt marsh has experienced notable growth over the last 25 years. The causes are not entirely clear, but it is possible that the control that has been exerted in recent years on the use of off-road vehicles on the beach, today strictly prohibited, influences it.
We can also see balancones, those dune catchers par excellence that are only installed in those slightly higher places on the beach where the water does not regularly wet their roots and the sand is less compacted.
