Natural Monument of Ajuy

Discover the geological origin of Fuerteventura

The visitor will also be able to appreciate in our municipality the geological origin of the island and its evolution. Fuerteventura is the oldest island in the Canary Islands, its coastline and the slopes of its ravines provide us with an authentic compendium of paleontology. From the most remote underwater levels emerged by the force of magma and the densest plutonic rocks to the most recent lava deposits. Ajuy is an unbeatable observatory for what is described as the oldest place in the Canary archipelago. In this fishing village there are also the Caves of the same name, where calcareous deposits, dikes, landslides and much more can be seen.
