Its small rocky jetty was the place where in 1402 the first Norman conquerors of Fuerteventura set foot on Majorero soil.

The Puerto de la Peña roadstead was later considered the main place for the entry and exit of the products of the island’s small trade with the outside world, during the following five centuries.

It has always been a strategic port as it is the only important natural shelter on the entire windward coast of Majorera, sheltered from attacks by pirates and Berbers.
